OMPAC Hosts Political Grassroots Seminar
The Oklahoma Medical Political Action Committee (OMPAC) in conjunction with the American Medical Political Action Committee (AMPAC) hosted a regional political grassroots seminar on January 23rd and 24th in Tulsa.
During the two-day event, over 70 physicians, alliance members and medical students from the four-state region of the Heart of America (Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma) gained insight into political grassroots advocacy and the importance of participating in the political process.
On Friday evening, U.S. Congressman John Sullivan (First District-Tulsa), was the keynote speaker for the opening reception and dinner which was held at the Southern Hills Marriott. On Saturday, Oklahoma Senator Susan Paddack, former AMA Alliance President, was the luncheon speaker during the educational program held at the Tulsa County Medical Society. Other speakers for the educational program included Sheldon Gross, MD, AMPAC Board Chair, Jim Wilson, AMA Political Education Programs Manager and Carlyle Gregory, a political consultant with Carlyle Gregory, LLC. OSMA Lobbyist Jim Dunlap, along with staff from all the Heart of America states, provided updates on key legislative issues for their areas.
All attendees left with a heightened appreciation for the challenges of seeking and holding a political office, as well as the knowledge to make a positive impact for the medical profession.

The Oklahoma Medical Political Action Committee (OMPAC) is a voluntary, bi-partisan, unincorporated entity comprised of OSMA members, OSMA Alliance members and OSMA staff interested in supporting political candidates. Primarily, OMPAC is an independent and autonomous organization managed by its own Board of Directors. The Board of Directors has authority over all policies and activities of the political action committee and serve without compensation. The OMPAC Board conducts the business of the committee and meets periodically to consider the contribution of OMPAC funds to candidates for public office who support OSMA’s legislative agenda. In addition, the OMPAC Board makes recommendations to the American Medical Political Action Committee (AMPAC) for consideration for contributions to federal candidates. No federal contributions are disbursed by AMPAC without the recommendation and approval from OMPAC. Approved political contributions for federal candidates are sent from AMPAC directly to OMPAC and are distributed to the candidates by OMPAC Board members.

Through physician and alliance membership in the American Medical Political Action Committee (AMPAC), the bipartisan political action committee of the AMA, critical political support is provided to the AMA's federal legislative agenda. The goal is to support and elect pro-medicine candidates at the federal level.
AMPAC makes direct contributions to candidates seeking election to the US.
